Refurbished Palmers Green nursery visited by Enfield community heroes
10:30am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
A refurbished nursery school celebrated its new look yesterday with a visit from heroes in the community.
The Co-operative Childcare Nursery in Palmerston Road, Palmers Green, formerly known as the Buffer Bear nursery, had a visit from firemen, police officers and a guide dog with her handler to mark the occasion.
The five fire officers – who arrived a little later than expected after having to attend an emergency call - also brought their fire engine for the older children to ride.
The children, aged three months to five years old, also met a guide dog called Daisy and her handler Elizabeth Abbott from the charity, the Blind Association.
Children at the nursery school also dressed up as their own heroes, with many donning Superman and Spiderman costumes.
The Mayor of Enfield, Councillor Christiana During, cut the ribbon to the newly named nursery school and took a tour of the refurbished classrooms.
Selen Suleyman, nursery manager at the school for two years, said: “The day was really good. The kids all really enjoyed themselves and the babies got to see the dog, some fireman and the police officers.”
The nursery has received £65,000 of investment from Co-operative Childcare, which is part of the Co-op group, to redecorate its three classrooms and buy new learning and play equipment for the 48 children at the school.
