Enfield Town beat Chatham Town in Ryman Division One North to keep up pressure on Leiston
11:51am Wednesday 22nd February 2012
Enfield Town kept us the pressure on division leaders Leiston by claiming a 3-0 victory over Chatham Town.
Neither team did themselves justice in the first half in what was a flat performance. This was shown by the nature of Enfield's first goal when a free kick into the box eluded everyone until Brad Potter connected, lofting it over his stranded keeper for an own goal.
Garry Tilley came closest to getting a goal back for the visitors with a curling a shot just before the break but it fell just the wrong side of the post.
The second half was a better spectacle and improved considerably for Enfield when an almost nonchalant 25 yard effort from Rudi Hall cleared Chatham keeper Tim Roberts before dipping under the bar.
Tilley had the better of the Chatham chances, testing Enfield's Noel Imber, but it looked all over when Kes Metitiri was penalised for a challenge on Leon Osei and the official pointed to the spot.
When Osei's effort from 12 yards hit the post, Chatham were still in with a chance, but it looked a slim one.
A great cross from Enfield's newest signing Tyler Campbell was only just diverted from Neil Johnston's path by the slightest of touches from Roberts but Town weren’t to be denied a third goal.
It came late on when Adam Wallace unselfishly squared to Dean Pennant to slot home and complete the scoring.
